Good News, Bad News

Good News: Our new carpet is here and installed!!! It is soft, cushy, a lovely neutral color, and best of all, free of any and all foster dog-inflicted stains!

Bad News: Since the carpet was installed yesterday, we were supposed to put the nursery together last night...except we hit a small snag when we tried to put the crib mattresses into the cribs. They didn't fit...as in, they were WAY too big. You couldn't even squish them down in there. I was under the impression that standard mattress + standard crib = perfect fit. Apparently not. It was traumatic. I cried. (I know, I have been doing that a lot lately.) Brian tried to placate me by leaving the house during the tears and returning with an ice cream sundae. That helped a bit. But more good news: we exchanged the mattresses today for ones that fit into the cribs. So tonight, work on the nursery will be resumed!

Bad News: I failed my one hour glucose test and had to take the three hour test on Tuesday. I had to drink the crap at 8:30 and give blood at 8:30, 9:30, 10:30, and 11:30. The drink was disgusting and made me feel so sick. I seriously sat there for three hours trying not to throw up (fortunately, I was successful). I should find out tomorrow if I passed. If I didn't, well...I don't even want to think about the next few months with no sweets.

Good News: In between all the fun of being stuck with needles and trying not to barf, I got an ultrasound! It was so fun to see the babies again. They are both growing right on track and measuring right around the 50th percentile. They are both currently breech, with their heads up by my ribs (which would explain the rib pain/being kicked in the bladder). And they appear to still be a boy and a girl, so that was nice to confirm!

Good News: I did something last week that was kind of silly...although if you know me, you won't be at all surprised. Our nursery doesn't have a theme, but I can't handle the thought of having a nursery that contains nothing dog-related. So I had my friend Dana, who is a great photographer, come over on Friday and take some pictures of Bailey to frame for the nursery. I sincerely hope that none of my neighbors were looking in the backyard, because I'm sure we were quite a sight rolling around on a white sheet with Bailey, trying to pose her and get her to look pretty for the camera. It was Dana's first time photographing a dog and I am guessing it may be her last! Bailey was not exactly supermodel material, but I bet Dana got some good shots.

Bad News: Dana's computer is broken! So I haven't been able to see any of the Bailey pictures yet. I am so anxious to see them but I'm trying to wait patiently. I will be sure to post them once Dana gets them up.

Maternity Clothes Fun!

My shopping trips used to go a little like this: Drive to mall. Walk into mall. Go to a couple of stores and try on clothes that look cute on the hanger. Buy whatever clothes actually look cute on me and not just the hanger. Drive home. Done and done!

But shopping for maternity clothes is much more exciting and goes a little like this: Drive to mall against mom's warnings that if I go in the mall, I will surely catch the swine flu. Park car while lamenting the fact that I don't get a handicapped parking pass. Walk into mall and past the places I used to shop, all the while trying to avoid looking at the mannequins wearing cute clothes that I will probably not fit into for quite some time.  Enter the mall's one maternity store and spend what seems like forever letting an overzealous salesperson help me try on clothes that are a) not really all that stylish,  b) only going to be worn for a few months, and c) waaaaay overpriced. Try to convince overzealous salesperson that I DO NOT need a size small shirt as I am pregnant with twins and only going to grow exponentially in the upcoming weeks. (I have come to the conclusion that this is a scam, as it has happened every time I have shopped for maternity clothes. They try to convince you to get a smaller size than you need so that you will soon outgrow whatever you buy and thus come back to buy more, bigger clothes. I'm on to you people!) Pay too much for a few long sleeved t-shirts (because that's really all I wear these days) in a size larger than the salesperson recommends. Drive home while calling mom to tell her that I am leaving the mall and have yet to experience any flu-like symptoms. Fun times!

Anyways, I was recently excited to hear that Heidi Klum was going to be coming out with two lines of maternity wear. Heidi Klum is fashionable, gorgeous, and (seeing as how she just had her fourth kiddo) knows a thing or two about being pregnant. I was perusing her new line called Lavish that she has out at A Pea in the Pod and while I found some cute stuff like this...

And this...

I also found some pieces that were a bit more questionable and that I felt I must share with you...

I fully admit that even when not pregnant, I am not the most cutting-edge, trendy person. But the above item is a maternity unitard. Talk about two words that just don't go together: Maternity UNITARD. Now, there is one pic on the website that shows the model wearing an open cardigan over the unitard (I am going to see how many times I can say "unitard." It's fun.) but in the other pics she is wearing the unitard all by its little self. And see how she has it all dressed up with the necklaces and four-inch heels? Oh, and I almost forgot: the unitard can be yours for a mere $95.00!

Onto our next item...

Maternity leather leggings! I really don't have a problem with these...the right person (i.e., not me) could definitely pull them off. And apparently Heidi agrees with me that they should not be worn by just anyone, because they only come in sizes small and medium...fatties need not apply! But just look at the back view:

She looks a little, um, squished into those leggings. And she is a model. I can't imagine how they would look on an average (size small or medium, of course) person. AND I can't imagine that they are at all comfortable. Aaaaannnnddd the best part? They can be yours for the bargain price of $550.00! Do you think I can add them to my baby registry?? :)

Snow Dogs

This is the most snow I have seen in a really long time...and the doggies are loving it! I decided to bundle myself up and go outside to get some pics of them playing. As it turned out, bundling myself up was no easy feat considering my winter/ski clothes don't exactly fit so well. At one point today I was wearing gray maternity sweatpants tucked into pink rain boots, a black XL hoodie that would zip up, a blue ski jacket that definitely wouldn't, white fuzzy gloves, and a burnt orange UT toboggan (I know, I'm a traitor to my school. It was the first one I grabbed. And it still had the tag attached, which added to my overall look.). It was quite the fashion statement. Fortunately I didn't take any pics of myself, but here are a few of the dogs enjoying themselves.

My girl watching the snow.

They were still for about a split second.

Then it was time to play!

 Mr. Bear looking cute.

Bailey being active is almost as rare as snow in Texas!

In Progress

Can you refer to something as "in progress" if the progress has, in fact, come to a complete standstill? Because that's unfortunately the point we're at right now with the nursery. The walls are painted, the chandelier is hung, and the crown molding has been installed. But sadly that's as far as we're going to get for awhile. The beautiful bedding that Brian's mom made us is still hanging out at the in-laws' house because the cribs still remain in their boxes (which is killing me because I am dying to see them!). The walls are bare and none of the cute stuff we got at our shower has been hung up in the closet.

The reason for the lack of progress? The new carpet that we ordered several weeks ago is, of course, on back order and won't be here until the last week of February. Upon finding this out last week, I had what you might call a small freak-out (yes, tears and everything...I'm blaming the hormones!). I suddenly wanted the nursery complete and I wanted it complete YESTERDAY. I wanted everything to be completely ready for the babies' arrival...and it was going to kill me to not be able to work on the nursery at all until the end of February/beginning of March. Brian listened patiently to my freak-out but, being a guy, failed to understand the urgency of the situation. He tried to use logic with me and told me that we would still have plenty of time to get the nursery together and that it just didn't make sense to put the cribs together and get everything set up if everything would just have to be moved out of the room in a couple of weeks. But he soon realized that all the logic in the world was not going to make his pregnant wife stop freaking out, so he offered a couple of solutions: to pick different carpet that would be here sooner, or to just go ahead and put the cribs together and deal with moving everything out of the room and then back into the room once the new carpet was installed. I stopped freaking out long enough to say I would think about those ideas.

Fortunately (especially for poor Brian), I did manage to calm myself down and reign in my hormonal craziness...and so I have decided to just be patient, wait for the carpet, and do nothing. Well, not exactly nothing. I have recently discovered the wonderfulness that is etsy (I know, I'm kinda late in catching on to this). I have gone a bit crazy looking at decor for the nursery, clothes for the babies, stationery, you name it. So at least I can stay inspired so that I'm ready to get to it once I am able to resume work on the nursery!

On another note, my blog is still failing to show that it's been updated...which means that probably no one is reading this, but if anyone happens to be reading who is a blogger expert and has a solution that will make the blog update again, please let me know!

First Shower!

We had our first baby shower last Saturday, hosted by my sisters-in-law and a few of my mom's friends. I tell you, it was kind of a surreal experience getting a baby shower invitation in the mail with MY name on it...it made everything suddenly seem so real! It was such a nice shower and we got SO many nice things for the babies...we are really blessed to have such caring friends and family.

The lovely hostesses and delicious food! The cake is from a place called "Nothing Bundt Cakes." Haha, get it?? It was delicious...I kind of wanted to claim the entire top layer (red velvet with chocolate chunks), grab a fork, and let the rest of the guests share the bottom layer. But I restrained myself.

My sisters-in-law and me. Between them, they have four kids ages four and under, so as you can imagine, they are a quite the wealth of knowledge about baby stuff. I call and bug them all the time with questions!

Opening some cute little stuffed animals. I am soooo not a fan of opening gifts in front of people, so I feel like I rushed through the gifts at record pace. It was really nice to get home and really look at everything. I cannot believe how tiny the clothes are...especially the socks!

Almost every day since the shower has brought a UPS delivery of something from our registry. It is so much fun seeing a big package on our doorstep and opening it to see what's inside...and Bailey enjoys it as well!

Let's hope this is the first and last time she decides to investigate the Diaper Champ!
