Playing Catch-Up: Parent-Teacher Conferences

We're well into the Christmas season and my last blog post was about Halloween...not cool. I am way behind and it's time to catch up. (It's also time to shop for Christmas gifts. And make treats for the neighbors. And wrap Christmas gifts. And plan class Christmas parties for ten two-year-olds. And buy more gifts.)

Anyways...shortly after Halloween, we had another big "first" as parents: Our first parent-teacher conferences. Don't worry, neither kiddo was in serious trouble or anything...parent-teacher conferences are a school requirement for everyone age two and up. Not that I have any doubts that my kids are awesome, but it is a little nerve-wracking walking into a sit-down meeting with your children's teacher.

It was really interesting to see all the developmental skills and milestones the school monitors. We went over a whole checklist for both kids of both physical and cognitive skills (who would have guessed that they test them to see if they can balance on one foot??) and we were so happy to hear that both Charlotte and Jensen are right on track. We were also happy that their teacher shared with us some of each of their individual strengths.

First up, Charlotte. Her teacher reports that our Bug is nurturing to all her friends, an "old soul" (she said that she often forgets how young Charlotte is when talking to her), and that she gives lots of hugs and love. She also reported that Charlotte LOVES to keep tabs on her brother and she always makes sure to tell on him when he's getting out of line. Yep, sounds about right.

And then, Jensen: Smart, sweet, friendly and curious. I love how every teacher always mentions his curiosity! She also mentioned that even when he's acting up, it's hard to get onto him on account of his cuteness. Yes, I feel her pain with that one! She also mentioned that Jensen seems to be advanced for his age as far as throwing and catching balls...AND she is pretty sure Jensen is going to be left-handed. Future southpaw for the Texas Rangers?!?
