Bathing Beauties

It is currently a rainy Tuesday after a three-day weekend and I kind of want to crawl back in bed while the kiddos are napping, but instead I decided to reminisce about all the fun we had this Labor Day weekend!

We started off with Brian leaving work early on Friday afternoon! (He rarely misses work unless one of the twins has a doctor's appointment or something equally exciting, so this was a real treat.)

Friday was the most beautiful day we have had in a long, long time...so we took advantage and camped out in the backyard for a bit. There is not much that makes me happier than being outside on a perfect day.

Friday night, my parents came over to babysit so Brian and I could go to dinner. They had taken a little two-day trip to the Choctaw casino and my mom had grandchildren-withdrawal so she needed to get her fix and we are always happy to get away for dinner alone. We went to Tillman's in Fort Worth...we love it there. The atmosphere is awesome and the food is really good (not to mention the drinks...Prickly Pear Margarita? Yes, please!). And it was so nice on Friday that we had drinks on the patio before dinner...heavenly!

Saturday we got up and drove out to the lake to meet the rest of Brian's family to celebrate his mom's birthday. Brian's parents have six grandchildren all age 4 and under...so you can imagine the chaos when we are all together! Charlotte is a little overwhelmed by it all and had a couple of meltdowns, but here she is with her cousin Laird, pre-meltdown:

And Jensen was his usual laid-back self:

We drove home Saturday night and pretty much collapsed in our beds. What is it about taking babies somewhere that is so exhausting??

Sunday we hung out around the house and enjoyed a visit from Uncle Dot and Aunt Biff, who convinced us that this would be the perfect day for Charlotte and Jensen's first dip in the pool. I know what you're thinking...they haven't been swimming all summer?! Short answer: No. Long answer: Our pool has no shade. It has been soooo hot outside. You can't put sunscreen on babies their age. The pool itself was hot. I read something about a link to early chlorine exposure and asthma. Or, to sum up, I am a paranoid first-time mom. Anyhow, we found their swimsuits and headed outside only to discover...the pool has gotten really cold! I guess since it's been getting cooler at night, the pool cooled down really quickly. So swimming pretty much consisted of dipping Charlotte and Jensen's feet in the water. But at least they looked cute in their swimwear!

Sunday night my parents came over to babysit again (I know, twice in one weekend. I am really spoiled!) so we could go to Creek Fever with the Wrens, the Samuels, Nick and Hilari, and Todd and Tiff. We ate dinner then sat outside, drank margaritas and listened to a band. Once again it was a beautiful evening outside and we had so much fun hanging out with our friends.

Monday morning we woke up and lounged around the house for a bit. We had planned on doing nothing all day, but then we decided that we might as well have some friends come over and do nothing with us. Last summer we had pool time with our friends almost every weekend, but the pool (and our friends!) have been sadly neglected this summer. So we ended up spending the afternoon with Jonathan, Tiffany, Tommy, Nick, Hilari, and Tiff. Charlotte and Jensen were there too, of course, sporting their swimwear for the occasion:

Side note: Do you remember how, just a few weeks ago, Charlotte looked a lot like me? It seems she has almost instantly morphed into a little clone of Brian!

So as you can see, it was a busy weekend! But a great way to say good-bye to Charlotte and Jensen's first summer!

  1. You are so right....Charlotte is a little mini Brian. So cute!! Not sure about Jensen, but he looks so stinkin cute in his swim gear with the camo hat. Can't wait to see them again....maybe over Thanksgiving...

  2. I see that Jensen has many, many years to grow into his trunks. I'm really glad you two were able to have a couple of nights out...I think you need that. Your parents are great.

  3. Due to the new filters here at work...I have a lot less fun places I am able to visit. Lucky for me, this one is still good.
